ABOUT BOATING SAFELY
This one day (8 hour) course taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, is designed to fulfill the requirement for your Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. Upon completion, the student will receive a 2 certificates.
One certificate is sent to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection with an application and the appropriate fee(currently $50)
in order to get
the license.
When the student receives the license the student is qualified to operate both recreational vessels up to 64.5 feet and jet-ski type (pwc) boats.
The class tuition is $65 per student and includes the instruction, chapter review questions, book, Federal and State requirements, and various boating safety brochures. Classes are limited to approximately 35 students and usually have at least 4 instructors.
Please be a considerate boater and arrive before 9am the day of the class. You will get the most benefit from the class if you are not frantically rushing in after it has started. Class starts promptly at 9AM and finishes around 5pm. The test begins shortly thereafter and usually ends just after 6PM.
There is typically a 45 minute lunch break and several 10 minute breaks throughout the day.
We encourage you to bring a lunch and get plenty of rest the night prior to the class in order to retain all of the information needed to pass the 60 question multiple choice closed book examination.
This course is held at the USCG Auxiliary Clinton Flotilla Base, 34 Riverside Drive, Cedar Island Marina, Clinton, CT. Exit 63 off of I-95.
Take Exit 63 off of I-95, Make a Right drive to the next traffic light. Make a left on Grove Street. Go straight past the stop sign. Make a right onto Riverside Drive. Make a left into the Cedar Island Marina and stop at the gate. One of our instructors will open the gate for you.
Follow until you enter the Cedar Island Marina and wait for a member to help you through the gate.
